At Nuro, we’re focused on bringing the benefits of autonomous technology to more people in more places. This week, we’re announcing another important step toward that goal: we’ve expanded our autonomous testing program to Dallas, Miami, and San Diego.

Laying the Foundation

Just like our recently announced testing in Las Vegas, our presence in these cities isn’t about launching a Nuro-owned and -operated service—it’s about building the foundation for future partner deployments.

While we believe autonomy can benefit communities everywhere, we’re starting in cities where we see the potential to make a meaningful impact quickly. Each one offers a unique mix of qualities—like geography, transportation networks, and population patterns—that make them promising environments for future deployments.

So we’re laying the groundwork now—defining routes, working with local stakeholders, and training the Nuro Driver™—to ensure we can deploy our technology efficiently, safely, and responsibly when our partners are ready.

In each new city, we begin with a data collection phase using manually driven vehicles operated by trained safety drivers. This allows us to closely study roadways, traffic behavior, and local infrastructure before launching any autonomous operations.

Dallas: Deepening Our Roots in Texas

Since launching an autonomous delivery pilot with Uber Eats in Houston in 2019, we’ve seen how autonomous vehicles can enhance daily life—helping people access what they need, when they need it. Now, we’re building on that momentum with our testing program in Dallas.

Dallas is an exciting city, with a fast-growing population, a strong innovation mindset, and a geographic landscape that ranges from dense urban neighborhoods to sprawling suburbs. With this backdrop, autonomy programs enabled by the Nuro Driver have the potential to deliver real value, from improving access to reliable transportation, to easing congestion and expanding how people and goods move through the region.

Texas continues to be a leader in autonomous innovation, thanks to supportive state policy, engaged leadership, and a forward-looking approach to technology. We’re proud to contribute to that momentum and support a future of safer, more accessible transportation.

Hello Florida, and Hello Miami!

Miami is more than a vibrant cultural and economic hub—it’s a city with dynamic transportation needs. From densely packed downtown corridors to barrier island causeways and event-filled waterfronts, Miami’s infrastructure is in constant motion. The city’s climate can bring heavy rain and high humidity, helping prepare our technology to serve people safely and reliably in more demanding conditions.

With a steady flow of tourists, a thriving nightlife, and a 24/7 economy, Miami experiences high transportation demand at all hours of the day. Autonomy has the potential to enhance how people and goods move through the city—whether by easing pressure on roadways, improving access to key destinations, or supporting service workers and small businesses that keep the city running.

We’re excited to be in Miami, and we look forward to working more closely with local leaders to thoughtfully integrate autonomy into the city’s daily rhythms.

San Diego: A Key Chapter in Our California Journey

As a Silicon Valley company, Nuro brings deep experience with autonomy in California. We were the first to receive a state AV deployment permit and have five years of driverless operations in the Bay Area—giving us a strong foundation in what it takes to safely deploy L4 technology in the Golden State.

San Diego’s mix of urban, coastal, and residential neighborhoods—paired with a transportation network that serves drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, and public transit riders—provides a valuable perspective as we build autonomy that can serve a range of communities. Anchored by top research institutions, a strong military community, and a population that includes students, commuters, and tourists, the city offers a meaningful opportunity to shape autonomous systems that operate safely and thoughtfully across a wide range of applications.

It’s also a city with a long-standing commitment to sustainability, public-private collaboration, and future-focused infrastructure. We’re eager to support those priorities by exploring how autonomy can contribute to cleaner air, safer roads, and more accessible transportation options.

Looking Ahead

As we expand our presence in California, Texas, Nevada, and begin our work in Florida, we’re laying the groundwork for a future where autonomous vehicles enhance everyday life—not just through technology, but through impact.

We’re grateful to these cities for welcoming our teams and sharing in the vision of a more efficient, accessible, and sustainable transportation future. We’re excited to deepen our partnerships and continue this journey together.
